We all know the dynamics intuitively, but it is amazing to see these figures in a formal report (commissioned by the IAB and conducted by PriceWaterHouseCoopers). You can download your own copy here:
There is a lot to read, but the two statistics that really caught our attention are:
Advertising on Mobile devices are growing faster than the overall market and commands a massive 65.1% share of the ad revenue.
Of all the ad formats, Video advertising showed the largest growth. In fact, it was the ONLY format with meaningful growth – 6.6% on desktop and a massive 65% on mobile!
These figures certainly tell a story – the world is going mobile and this is just the beginning. When one considers things like the up-and-coming 5G technology, which will bring unprecedented data speeds to the handheld device, it is not hard to see what will happen. 5G will most certainly enable advertisers to operate at higher efficiency with the potential to reduce latency, spur advancements in location-based technology and programmatic technology, as well as to allow for developments in creative formats.
What this means for consumers is an overall improvement in the mobile video experience.
For marketers however, it means “get on the bus now, or lose out”!
